Class Description

Tai Chi for Intermediate Students dives into the graceful world of Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan, where we will immerse ourselves in the rich heritage of the Yang family tradition.  This class is dedicated to the study of Section 1, and the first few moves of Section 2 of Cheng man Ching’s 37-move form (Contact Instructor with questions).   Tai Chi for Intermediate Students emphasizes helping intermediate students experience the profound benefits of Tai Chi Chuan, including relaxation, enhanced flexibility, and improved balance.

Course Objectives (for Students/Attendees):

  1. Proficiency in Yang Short Form: Achieve a comprehensive understanding and practical proficiency in the 37 postures of the Yang Short Form.
  2. Mastery of Tai Chi Chuan Principles: Demonstrate a grasp of the fundamental principles of Tai Chi Chuan as they apply to each of the form’s 37 postures, integrating both physical and philosophical aspects of this ancient practice.

Instructor Biography

Jay Soderberg has been studying Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong since 2006. He studied several Yang style forms, including the traditional Long Form (108 moves), the 24-Form, and Cheng Man Ching’s 37-Form. He studied with Fong Ha – a widely respected Instructor that resided in Berkeley, CA – who taught world-wide. Jay was certified to teach Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan by Fong Ha in 2012. Beginning in 2014, Jay began teaching to help spread the benefits of Tai Chi Chuan. His experience with teaching Yang style includes form work, applications, push hands, saber, sword, and meditation, as well as Yiquan, and Qigong. Jay enjoys working with students of all abilities, explaining both the martial and health aspects of Tai Chi Chuan, and sharing its history.

Non-Members must purchase a Guest-Pass prior to each class for $12.
